Teaching and Mentorship

Some parts about working in an academic setting are less fun- but teaching and mentorship are two aspects I really enjoy about my job. I've been lucky to have phenomenal mentors, teachers, and advocates and I aspire to be that for others.

Teaching and Mentorship Snapshot

It’s interesting how so many professors can teach about mental health but structure their class in a way that is not beneficial to their student’s mental health- Tyler did an amazing job creating an environment that made me want to come to class and listen even if I didn’t want to get out of bed that day. I can really tell she cares about her students’ success both academically and mentally.

This was literally one of the best classes I’ve taken. I can honestly say that I’ve truly grown as a person and student in this class! She provided support to her class through offering mental health days and through speaking out on important political and social topics. She tore down stigmas and advocated against racial and gendered/sexuality bases of discrimination in the medical field.

Professor McFayden was very respectful while teaching important and sensitive topics that related to today’s climate and the history of society in general. My favorite part of this course was assignment 2, the cultural competency course. From this assignment, I was able to see people’s perspectives of different backgrounds from mine, and it was eye-opening.
